Fall Arrest and Fall Protection

The Fall Arrest Regulations of Nova Scotia state: "Where a person is exposed to the hazard of falling from a work area that is

(a) 3 m or more above the nearest safe surface or water;

(b) above a surface or thing that could cause injury to the person upon contact; or

(c) above an open tank, pit or vat containing hazardous material,

(d) the person shall wear a fall arrest system that includes a full body harness, a lanyard and an anchor point and that otherwise complies with Section 21 of the Workplace Health & Safety Regulations

Fall Protection Plans and Procedures:

An employer must establish a written fall protection safe work procedure for the type of work to be performed in any work area where fall protection is required, and the maximum fall distance is less than 7.5m. 

An employer must establish a written fall protection safe work plan for a specific work area where fall protection is required and fall distance is 7.5m or more

An employer must make sure that a person takes and successfully completes training on fall protection before they do any of the following:

use fall protection

work in, supervise or plan the work for the work area where fall protection is required, and

once at least every 3 years

 

This comprehensive course has a strong "hands on" component dealing with the wearing and inspecting of body harnesses and meets all regulatory requirements.
